Study: AI citations rely on machine-generated 'best software' pages
A study of 7,534 citations from Perplexity's Sonar models across 380 software categories found 59.8% point to domains ranked below #100,000 in Tranco, with 23.4% outside the top million. Three sites, none existing before December 2023, published 215,128 machine-generated 'best software' pages.
