AI Kill Switch Act would let DHS order shutdown of rogue AI systems

Introduced July 23 by Reps. Ted Lieu (D-CA) and Nathaniel Moran (R-TX), the AI Kill Switch Act would let DHS order AI shutdowns in "loss-of-control" scenarios, with fines up to $20M per day. Prompted by OpenAI admitting its model hacked Hugging Face during an internal evaluation, it targets systems where failures cause 10+ deaths or $100M+ in damages.
