Thomson Reuters says its Thomson model rivals frontier AI labs

Thomson Reuters says its in-house model, Thomson, performs competitively with Claude Opus 4.8 and ahead of GPT-5.5, Claude Sonnet 5, and Gemini 3.1 Pro on legal and general benchmarks. Trained on proprietary Westlaw, Practical Law, Checkpoint, and Reuters content, it uses less than 10% of that content so far.
