OpenAI hires Noam Shazeer and Dean Ball ahead of IPO

Noam Shazeer, co-inventor of the Transformer architecture, left Google DeepMind to join OpenAI. Dean Ball, former Trump AI policy official, will lead a new "Strategic Futures" team on frontier AI policy. Both moves come as OpenAI prepares for its IPO.
