FAA to launch $875M AI air traffic program SMART
The FAA will deploy SMART (Strategic Management of Airspace, Routes, and Trajectories), a cloud-based AI platform from Air Space Intelligence, at a cost of $875 million over 12 years. It predicts traffic flows and flags potential conflicts using airline schedules, weather, airport capacity, and airspace conditions, rolling out first in the Washington, D.C. metro area.
