OpenAI model makes progress on 10 open math problems

An unreleased OpenAI model reportedly made progress on ten longstanding open math problems, some unsolved for up to 48 years, at an inference cost of about $2,000. Results include a counterexample in nonsofic groups and progress on high-dimensional sphere packing, sparking debate over credit for AI-generated proofs.
