OpenAI slows Astra model development over cybersecurity concerns
OpenAI suspended some Astra development after internal review found the upcoming model reached its "critical cybersecurity threshold" — able to independently carry out cyberattacks against well-protected real-world systems. Under its Preparedness Framework, OpenAI says it cannot rule out Critical capability level; Astra was not involved in the Hugging Face breach.
