Anthropic moves Claude Fable 5 to pay-per-use, ending subscription inclusion

Starting July 12, 2026, Claude Fable 5 will cost $10 per million input tokens and $50 per million output tokens, even for subscribers. This is the first time a frontier AI lab has gated a consumer model behind usage-based billing, signaling a shift away from flat-rate subscriptions.
