Open models gain ground on frontier models in enterprise adoption

Chinese open-weight models accounted for 41% of Hugging Face downloads this spring, surpassing US models. On OpenRouter, six of the top seven most popular models are open Chinese models, with Anthropic's Claude Opus 4.7 in seventh. Hugging Face CEO Clem Delangue noted that enterprises increasingly prefer open models for cost and flexibility, suggesting frontier models may become niche.
