Claude Fable 5 disproves 87-year-old Jacobian Conjecture

Anthropic researcher Levent Alpöge used Claude Fable 5 to find a counterexample to the Jacobian Conjecture, an open problem since 1939. The result has been empirically validated and is hand-checkable. The conjecture was #16 on Smale's list of 18 major math problems.
