China rejects AI slowdown calls as 'fearmongering' after Amodei essay

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said "fearmongering, confrontation and vicious competition will only disrupt the process of global AI governance." Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei's Saturday essay warned a "Chinese lead in AI would pose grave danger" and urged continued chip-export restrictions. Trump and Xi are expected to discuss AI governance at a Sept. 24 meeting.
