OpenAI's internal model produced a counterexample to Erdős's 1946 unit distance conjecture on May 20, 2026 — the first historically significant proof from an AI model, though humans improved on it within weeks. On August 1, OpenAI said unreleased model Astra made 10 more advances, solving three additional Erdős problems.
