China rejects AI slowdown calls as 'fearmongering'

China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said "fearmongering, confrontation and vicious competition will only disrupt the process of global AI governance," responding to Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei's essay urging a global AI slowdown and continued chip restrictions on China. Trump and Xi are expected to discuss AI governance at a Sept. 24 meeting.
