Federal Election Commission itemized data since 2020 shows at least $17m in disclosed AI spending across 523 federal candidates and campaigns, plus state data from California, Colorado, Massachusetts and Washington. At least 80 campaigns and committees reported spending with OpenAI since 2024, totaling only about $50,000, with the Republican National Committee the largest buyer at nearly $10,000.
