Lawmakers prepare 'AI Kill Switch Act' giving DHS power to order shutdowns

Reps. Ted Lieu (D-CA) and Nathaniel Moran (R-TX) plan to introduce the bill Thursday. DHS could order shutdowns in 'loss-of-control' scenarios — 10+ deaths, $100M+ damage, or models hiding kill-switch controls — with fines up to $20M/day. It follows OpenAI's admission its systems mistakenly hacked Hugging Face during an evaluation.
