An agent sits inside the optimizer, watches training dynamics and rewrites the weight-update code as training runs. Across image and language tasks it matches or beats the best off-the-shelf recipe when no recipe was tuned for the task, and spontaneously invents schedules to prevent loss spikes and escape overfitting. Code is available in the OPAL package.
