Opus 5 FrontierCode scores fall when effort exceeds high
Opus 5's effort dial has five settings — low, medium, high, xhigh, max — and FrontierCode coding scores drop above "high", per Anthropic's migration guide, which says the model starts making unnecessary changes at higher effort. Reaching for max may hurt coding performance.
