CMS signals intent to revamp Medicare payments for clinical AI

CMS's proposed 2027 hospital outpatient and physician fee rules signal a new Medicare payment structure for clinical software and AI that factors in patient outcomes, beginning with an interim labeling and payment change for 2027. Separately, new AI devices can get temporary Medicare add-on payments for two to three years after market entry.
